Library News: Week of July 24, 2022 – The Globe

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Library, 407 12th St., Worthington, is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Adrian Branch Library, 214 Maine Ave., Adrian, is open 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Monthly Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Club: The next meeting will be on August 10 at 5:00 p.m. in the program room of the library. This month’s topic is hard fantasy: when an author applies logic and rules to create a magical system that the world and its characters strictly follow to perform magical feats. Instead of just focusing on expanding the world through multiple books, they also focus within and delve into the whys and wherefores of things. Some examples are the series Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, The Way of the King or The Dying Earth.

From the director of the library: The Nobles County Library is looking for historical, cultural, or personal collections to fill our display case in our lobby. The objects will be exhibited in this locked showcase for a month. If you would like to show your collection, please speak to Beth to make arrangements.

Monthly Book View: Each month a theme is chosen and displayed at the front. We featured books on graduation, books in Spanish, and this month, graphic novels. Come take a look and watch for next month’s theme!

Summer Reading Program: This year’s theme is “Reading Beyond the Box”. Earn library dollars for reading. For every 60 minutes you read, or someone reads to you, you’ll earn a library dollar to spend at the Nobles County Library Store.
