Solar developer 8minute changes name to Avantus

September 14 (Renewables Now) – US solar developer 8minute Solar Energy announced today that it has changed its name to Avantus to reflect its increased interest in advanced technologies.

The company will continue to develop its pipeline of over 70 large-scale projects. At the same time, it uses proprietary technologies and design optimization tools to deliver smart power plants with integrated storage capable of delivering flexible and predictable output to the grid.

“Energy systems must evolve to adapt to the complex, data-driven world we live in,” said Kip Larson, chief technology officer of Avantus, who previously worked at Amazon, Amazon Web Services and Convoy. “That’s why Avantus has created a new renewable energy generation and storage ecosystem that surpasses conventional, simple designs,” he added.

Larson explained that the company uses digital tools such as large-scale simulations and predictive analytics to create highly specific and optimized system architecture, power plant designs and operational systems based on machine learning.

In early 2022, 8minute closed a USD 400 million (EUR 393 million) financing from institutional investor EIG to continue its growth, including by advancing the design of solar power plants.
