Tencent acquires Turtle Rock Studios, developer of Back 4 Blood
The Tencent conglomerate has acquired Slamfire, the parent company of developer Turtle Rock Studios, as announced on Friday. Turtle Rock Studios are known for their work on Left 4 Dead, Evolve, and more recently, the Back 4 Blood co-op shooter. Turtle Rock notes that despite the acquisition, the studio will continue to be run by its co-founders, Phil Robb and Chris Ashton.
Turtle Rock Studios plans to use the resources of the acquisition to expand the team and develop “exciting new multiplayer experiences.” The team also promises to provide future updates on any plans decided for Back 4 Blood.
âPlus, we can do something that we’ve never done before as a studio: turn a universe we’ve created into a true, long-standing AAA franchise. Now we can make sure the Back 4 Blood franchise is up. here to stay and we will work for the long term, âthe team adds.
Tencent has grown rapidly in the games industry in recent years, owning Riot Games and acquiring studios like Leyou, while investing with minority stakes in many teams like Epic Games, Bloober Team, Dontnod and PlatinumGames.
