week-long workshop inaugurated at Iit-k | Kanpur News

Kanpur: The 9th edition of the Indian School of Logic and Applications (ISLA 2022), a week-long workshop organized by the Department of Mathematics, IIT Kanpur, was inaugurated by Prof. Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Kanpur.
After welcoming the participants, Dr. Amit Kuber informed that the school is a biennial event of the Association of Logic in India (ALI) which aims to teach topics related to mathematical logic to students as well as researchers mainly in India. The hybrid nature of the current event has allowed the participation of other countries like South Africa, UK, Germany, China and USA. Professor Mohua Banerjee, head of the department, noted that the department is one of the very few mathematics departments in the country to offer a compulsory course on mathematical logic. Addressing the school participants, Prof. Shalabh underlined the importance of mathematical logic as a fundamental subject and appreciated the awareness and knowledge efforts on the subject.
The academic program includes several short series of lectures by experts in the field, including Nick Bezhanishvili (University of Amsterdam), Marcus Tressl (University of Manchester), Sujata Ghosh (ISI Chennai), Mohua Banerjee, Amit Kuber and Purbita Jana ( IIT Kanpur), as well as two students, Dipankar Maity (IISER Pune) and Animesh Renanse (IIT Guwahati).
